Problem 27
Contract: 6NT by South. Opening lead: 5♣.
There are five club tricks on top, three hearts with the aid of a finesse, two spades and one diamond.
South cannot rely on the fourth heart because he only has one entry to the table.
How, then, can declarer arrive at twelve tricks?

- On the fifth club from dummy, South discards the Ace of diamonds.
- He then takes the Ace of hearts after finessing the heart twice, the Ace and King of spades followed by the low diamond.
- North’s Queen of diamonds now becomes an entry for the ten of hearts.
