Solution
- Declarer wins the spade in dummy and must duck a round of diamonds as there no side entries after the Ace of spades has been remove3d.
- The Ace of diamonds is played and when East’s ten appears South must drop the eight or nine preparing for a finesse if necessary.
- After the Ace, a small diamond is played to declarer’s eight or nine.
- If West wins the trick, declarer will be able to run three more diamond tricks by leading the four and finessing dummy’s seven.
- Should West decline to win the second diamond he will retain the QJ so the dummy can make only the King and no long cards in the suit.
- To over come this defence declarer can duck a round of Clubs thus producing four tricks in that suit.
