- At trick one declarer can trump East’s diamond king high and enter dummy with a trump and play a low spade.
- If East goes up with his Ace of spades, declarer can set up a diamond winner and discard three Club losers on dummy’s spade and diamond winners.
- If East does not play his spade lead at trick three, declarer wins his spade K and enters dummy with a third round of trumps, plays his diamond and discards the spade 7. Did you pick the winner? You did, but wait a minute.
- On trick one East plays a small diamond. Declarer scores a wholly unexpected trick but it does him no good because his discard comes too early.
- If he throws his spade 7, the King will fall on the Ace gibing him only two spade winners in dummy so he must still lose a club.
- If he throws a club he will still lose a club and a spade.
