Solution
- West’s lead is won by East’s Ace and the Queen of Diamonds is played.
- If South covers with the King, West trumps and plays a trump.
- In order to trump a Diamond South must play another Diamond at trick four.
- West however trumps East’s trick in order to play another trump thus defeating the contract as declarer still has a losing Diamond.
- In order to make the contract declarer must not cover the second Diamond lead nor the third.
- East-West take only the first three tricks.
