- South plays the Jack of Hearts and discards dummy’s nine.
- (a) If West returns a diamond, south cross-ruffs the hand;
- (b) If West returns a spade dummy ruffs and South wins the remaining tricks;
- (c) If West returns a trump South wins and plays the last trump squeezing West in diamonds.
